The Ashta-Nayika is a collective name for eight types of nayika s or heroines as classified by Bharatmuni in his Sanskrit treatise on performing art - Natyashastra . The eight nayikas represent eight different states ( avastha ) in relationship to her hero or nayaka .As archrtypal states of the romantic heroine, it has been used as theme in indian painting, loterature, sculpture as well as Indian classical and music

They’re typically produced on paper or cloth, drawn on a surface with threads, fashioned in bronze, or built in stone. While extraordinary as a standalone work of art, mandalas hold symbolic and meditative meaning beyond their vibrant appearance
